Life is just a bowl of cherries ...

"Life is just a bowl of cherries"
is a funny saying, but for some reason I like the sound of it and with cherries now in season in Australia I am wishing they were as reasonably priced as they were in the markets of Provence!

Bee Happy !

Watching a bee at work this morning in the David Austen roses in our front garden (first photo) reminded me of the photos I took this June in the Jardins de Bagatelle in Paris.
Those French bees sure are bigger than ours !
Gotta love bees ...

The Mounties always get their Man !!!

Each Christmas I bring out this favourite old quilt and reflect on its history.
It is made from the worsted serge fabric from the uniforms of the Canadian Mounted Police and is most unique and quite rare from my research.
I purchased it from an antique dealer at the Houston Quilt Market about 20 years ago and its date was the late 1800's when the Mounties were called North Eastern Mounted Police .
It is a log cabin design, rather faded, roughly sewn and tied with wool
- and I think it is fabulous !!

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow !

As I unwrapped some of my favourite vintage Christmas ornaments, I realised all we needed was some snow !
Oh well, they look pretty even if Summer officially begins this Thursday ...

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

It has been a busy Sunday spent erecting the brand new 2 metre tall Christmas tree ( our 30 year old worn out tree was retired last year ). This "evergreen" was bought yesterday in the city and carried to the car with some difficulty by Sarah and me. It would be nice if it was like in the movies when a freshly chopped fir tree is chosen and placed on top of the vehicle to be driven through the crisp white snow and decorated as a log fire burns, carols are played and eggnog is drunk !
It is quite a different scene here in Perth with this week's  devastating bush fires "down south", reminding us that we live in a harsh, and sometimes cruel, brown land ...

But Christmas will be here in no time, so out came the boxes ( and boxes ) of ornaments which have been collected for ever, each holding a memory of a year gone by, or a friend no longer with us, or simply a happy moment ...
As I ponder the modern and "decorator" trees so evident nowadays, with their coordinated decorations in colours of blue and aqua, or hot pink and silver, I realise our tree is very traditional and somewhat
old fashioned.
But that's the way I like it !

Must Visit !

If you live in Perth and can manage it, do visit the Canning Stock Route Exhibition at the Perth Convention Centre. The art is fabulous and the presentation is impressive.
I was fortunate to be there when the artists and dancers from the Great Sandy Desert were performing -  a most memorable occasion !
