For the "soon to be lock keepers", Braiz, Bingo and Bill ...

Today we travelled by the Metro and bus to and from the Canal St Martin, so as to explore another area of Paris we were not familiar with. After enjoying watching the boats enter and exit the locks, we decided the area did not offer much more as yet.

This canal was constructed in 1802 under orders from Napoleon I to link the Canal d'Ourg to the River Seine and bring much needed fresh water supplies to the growing population of Paris.
It took 23 years to dig and was funded by a new tax on wine.
