The covered passages of Paris

In the early 1800's beautiful glass covered passages, also called galleries, were built to protect shoppers from the rain. There were over 100 of these, but only 20 have survived. One of the prettiest is the Galerie Vivienne which opened in 1823 ... we enjoyed lunch there today and then wandered through the quaint shops admiring the mosaic tiled floors and old light fittings.

Another hidden secret !
